Chaplain James Claypool served as the first chaplain on the battleship USS South Dakota during World War II. His twenty months onboard included the ship’s commissioning, the South Pacific battles of Santa Cruz and Savo Island, time at the Brooklyn Navy Yard for battle damage repair, supporting the British Home Fleet in the North Atlantic, and back to the South Pacific.
This new edition is a reprint of the original book published by the John C. Winston Company in 1944.
